What Counts as a Marketing Email
Marketing emails are things like our newsletter, tips for sellers, product updates, and occasional announcements. They're different from transactional emails (order confirmations, payment updates, delivery tracking, and so on), which we send to every user as part of running your account. You can't opt out of transactional emails without deleting your account, and they're sent through a separate system (MailerSend), not the marketing one.
Will I Get Marketing Emails From ShopBroker?
Only if you've explicitly subscribed.
Creating a ShopBroker account does not subscribe you to marketing. There's no checkbox at signup, and we don't infer consent from anything else you do on the platform. The single way to opt in is the newsletter signup form in the footer of shopbroker.ca.
If you've never subscribed there, you'll only ever hear from us about your own orders, listings, and account activity.
How to Subscribe

Enter your email in the newsletter signup
Check the consent box and submit
When you do this, we record the version of the consent text you agreed to, along with a timestamp and a few technical details (your IP address and browser). This is a CASL requirement, and we keep that record so we can prove your consent was express and informed if it's ever questioned.
How to Unsubscribe
You have two options. Both are immediate.
Fastest: Click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email we've sent you.
Or: Use the Manage preferences link in the same email footer to open Klaviyo's preference center, where you can fine-tune which lists you're on.
CASL gives us up to 10 business days to honour an unsubscribe request. Our system processes them in near real-time, so you should stop receiving marketing emails right away.
What Information Does Klaviyo Have About Me?
We use Klaviyo to send and segment marketing emails. To do that, Klaviyo holds a profile for every ShopBroker account, even if you haven't subscribed. Profiles for non-subscribers exist only so segmentation is ready if you opt in later. They're never added to any mailing list.
At a high level, the data we share with Klaviyo includes:
Email address, user ID, and display name (your first name and last initial)
Approximate location (city and province derived from your postal code)
Your platform role state (buyer, seller, or both)
Account activity events (signups, listings, transactions, reviews)
Loyalty and rewards state (Community Stars tier, BrokerBucks balance bands)
Email engagement signals (opens, clicks, unsubscribes, bounces) for marketing emails you've actually received
We do not share:
Your full street address
Payment card or banking details
Government identifiers
Message content between you and other users
Dispute records
Item-specific transaction details beyond aggregate counts

What Happens If I Delete My ShopBroker Account?
When you delete your account, your Klaviyo profile is deleted within 30 days.
We also add your email to Klaviyo's suppression list as a permanent safeguard. The suppression list keeps a minimal record (your email and a timestamp) so that if you ever sign up again later, we can never accidentally re-add you to marketing without a fresh opt-in. This is a CASL record-keeping safeguard, not active marketing data. The email isn't used to send you anything, ever. It exists only to block accidental re-subscription.

Requesting Access, Correction, or Deletion of Your Data
You have the right under PIPEDA to access, correct, or request deletion of the data we hold about you, including data held by Klaviyo on our behalf.
To submit a request:
Email [email protected] from the email on your ShopBroker account
Tell us what you'd like (access, correction, deletion, or all three)
We respond within 30 days, which is the PIPEDA service standard. If we need to coordinate with Klaviyo (for example, to pull a copy of your marketing profile or scrub a record), we do that on your behalf. You don't need to contact Klaviyo directly.
