Closing Your Account
We're sad to see you go, but we understand. Here's how to delete your ShopBroker account and exactly what happens to your data.
How to Delete Your Account
Visit our self-service deletion page at shopbroker.ca/delete-account:
Sign in to your ShopBroker account
Review the eligibility check (we'll show any unfinished business that needs resolving first)
Read the retention disclosure
Type your email to confirm
Click "Permanently delete"
Your personal information will be anonymized within 24 hours.
If you can't sign in, you can email [email protected] from the email associated with your account. We'll verify your identity and process the request within 2-3 business days.
Before You Delete
You cannot delete your account if you have any of these in progress:
Pending transactions as buyer or seller (orders awaiting payment, pickup, or delivery)
Active disputes or unresolved issues
Pending payouts to your bank from PayPal or Stripe
Outstanding balance owed to ShopBroker
Active listings with buyer messages or interest
Our deletion page will list any blockers and link you to the steps needed to resolve them.
What Gets Deleted (Within 24 Hours)
The following personal information is removed within 24 hours of your deletion request:
Your name (first and last)
Email address
Phone number
Mailing address
Profile photo and bio
Push notification tokens
Biometric login credentials (mobile app)
Active session data
Connected payment provider links (PayPal and Stripe Connect)
What Stays Visible (As "Deleted User")
To protect the integrity of our community trust system, the following remain visible to other ShopBroker users, but attributed to "Deleted User" instead of your name:
Reviews and ratings you received from other users
Past conversations (your messages stay, but your name is anonymized)
Your transaction count and seller statistics
Your username slot is preserved (tombstoned) so it cannot be re-registered by someone else impersonating you.
What Gets Retained (For Legal Compliance)
Some data must be kept for years even after deletion, as required by Canadian law. All retained data is anonymized. Your name, email, phone, and address are removed; only the financial transaction record itself remains.
Data | Retention Period | Reason |
Transaction records (orders, fees, payouts) | 6+ years from end of tax year | Income Tax Act s. 230(4) and Excise Tax Act s. 286 |
Dispute evidence (photos, descriptions, investigation records) | 2 years after dispute closure | Ontario Limitations Act s. 4 |
Communication logs related to disputes | 2 years | Customer support and dispute resolution |
Fraud prevention hashes | 24 months (60 months for confirmed fraud or terms violations) | PIPEDA s. 7(3)(d.2), the fraud prevention exception |
Payment processor records | Per your payment processor's policies (typically 5-10 years) | AML and regulatory compliance |
For complete retention details, see our Privacy Policy.
Coming Back After Deletion
You can come back, and your reputation will be restored.
If you create a new ShopBroker account using the same email, phone number, address, or payment information, we'll automatically detect your previous account and restore your full history:
Your old reviews and ratings reattach
Your transaction history reattaches
Your seller statistics reattach
You pick up where you left off
You cannot create a "fresh start" account by deleting and re-registering. This is intentional. It protects buyers and sellers from bad actors who try to wipe negative reputation. If you've had ShopBroker reviews that you're not proud of, deletion will not erase them.
If your account was deleted because of a terms-of-service violation or fraud, you will be unable to re-register at all. Contact support if you believe this is in error.
Your Payment Provider Accounts
When you delete your ShopBroker account, we disconnect any linked PayPal and Stripe Connect accounts. However, we do not delete the underlying provider accounts themselves. They remain on PayPal's and Stripe's servers and continue to function for any other platforms or direct payments you may use them for.
If you also want to close your PayPal or Stripe Express accounts, you'll need to do that directly with each provider:
PayPal: Log into paypal.com, go to Account Settings, and follow PayPal's account closure flow, or contact PayPal Customer Support
Stripe: Access your Stripe Express dashboard, go to Account settings, then Close account, or contact Stripe support
Common Questions
Will my ratings disappear from other users' profiles?
No. Reviews and ratings you gave others remain visible, attributed to "Deleted User". This is part of how we protect community trust on ShopBroker.
What about my referrals?
When your account is deleted, any referral credits and active discounts end. Users you previously referred keep their accounts.
Can I delete just my listings instead?
Yes. You don't need to delete your account to remove listings. Just delist them from your dashboard. Account deletion is for users who want to leave ShopBroker entirely.
How long does deletion take?
Self-service deletion through the deletion page is immediate (PII anonymized within 24 hours). Email-based requests are processed within 2-3 business days.
Can I download my data before deleting?
Currently we don't offer self-service data export, but you can email [email protected] to request a copy of your account data before deletion. We'll respond within 2-3 business days.
What if I just need a break?
You don't need to delete your account to take a break. Just stop using ShopBroker. Your account stays dormant. You can also delist your active items without deleting your account.
Pausing Instead of Deleting
If you might return, consider pausing instead:
Remove your active listings
Just don't create new ones
Your account stays dormant
Return anytime with no friction
Thank You

Wishing you the best!
