ShopBroker is for secondhand physical items you can hand off locally in the GTA. A few things aren't allowed, mostly for safety and to keep us within the law. If your listing falls into one of these, we'll remove it and let you know why.
What's not allowed
Dangerous items
Weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, and hazardous materials. Anything that could hurt someone or isn't safe to handle and deliver.
Regulated items
Things that are controlled or need a special license, including:
Alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and vaping products
Medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter (for example pain relievers, allergy meds, or hair-loss treatments like minoxidil)
Vitamins, supplements, and other health products
These aren't allowed even if they're sealed or unused. They're regulated by Health Canada and sit outside what a peer-to-peer marketplace can handle.
Problematic items
Stolen goods, counterfeits, replicas, or knockoffs, live animals, adult content, and recalled products.
Services
ShopBroker is for physical items, not services.
Why these rules exist
It comes down to two things: keeping our community safe, and staying on the right side of the law. Some products are regulated by Health Canada no matter who's selling them or how the sale happens, including sealed items and cash or e-Transfer handoffs. A peer-to-peer marketplace isn't set up to handle them safely or legally, so they're off the table here.
What happens if you list something prohibited
We'll take the listing down and email you the reason. Your account is fine as long as it doesn't keep happening. Some listings are also blocked automatically when you create them, with a quick note explaining why.
Not sure about something?
When in doubt, ask us first. Reach out to support and we'll tell you whether your item is good to list. It's always quicker to check than to have a listing removed.
